Is this message offensive? Objectively, maybe; subjectively, possibly; contextually…?
Personally I’m more offended by the tone-deaf marketing department who greenlit this slogan. Pitching this to a target audience keenly in touch with contemporary social issues and you fail to make the very small hop from “spontaneous impulse” to “date rape?”
Sexual assault (and its confounding mishandling) are spotlight discussions among Millennials. While I can’t say ads for this product were ever overly intellectual or thought-provoking, it still never ceases to amaze me how major corporations time and again make such misguided promotional choices.
Anyway that’s enough advertising commentary for one night. Major benefit #3,987 to staying sober: not being confronted with Big Booze’s consumerist ploys.
