Same shit, different decade.

On the L.A. riots following Rodney King’s arrest.

As long as institutionalized racism still exists, so too will these incidents.

I’m speaking of the events that have transpired in Baltimore today.  We can point fingers & wildly speculate until we run out of word combinations and start repeating opinion-based facts (see: the cable news cycle), but I think that course of action is getting a little old, don’t you?

A black President does not signal the end of racism.  A female President will not herald the end of gender inequality.  A Latino President will not eradicate the brutality of the southern cartels.  A sober President will not remove the temptation to use.

The collective good will triumph over the collective evil when society can maturely accept responsibility for its faults.  The first step is admitting wrongdoing, as they say.  When w’all (“we all?” can I do that?) are willing to face our demons, then may we come correct and begin down a road of healing, progress, and prosperity.

If that sounds lofty and preachy…that’s because it is.  I don’t, can’t, and never will have the answers to what ails us — but what I can affect a change in, is in myself.  I proactively better society by working an honest program.  Once a liability; now an asset.

My only hope is to continue to appreciate in value — and maybe to inspire others to invest wisely, too.
