WELL HOT DAMN.
It just feels good to be alive today. It was all sunshine and ideal temperatures (personally ideal, anyway) this morning along the Atlantic City boardwalk. A nice flat course; a scenic landscape; a new accomplishment.
Goals consisted of: a) running not walking b) the entire race c) within 2:00:00-2:15:00. Check, check, check.
Super positive experience that was very much enhanced by the nice weather — couldn’t have asked for a better day to run my first half-marathon. Will definitely be looking to repeat in the near future.
It is worth noting that this, an overly athletic event…felt quite peculiarly juxtaposed with the seedy undertones of Atlantic City. For example, as I walked through a casino at 6AM to find the ballroom where the race organizers were handing out bibs…there were definitely people shuffling around who had been there all night on the tables. I walked up and down the boardwalk a little more after the race was done and I had showered, but I realized after running a hard 13 miles none of what AC had to offer (fried food, chintzy souvenirs, divey bars) appealed to me in the slightest. #contrast
But the saltwater in the air was refreshing, and sore as I am now, I feel pretty dynamite. Grateful to be alive today.
