Had the opportunity to attend a couple of A.A. meetings while I was home, and what a welcome refresher it was.
It so happened that there was a newcomer in the rooms this weekend, which allowed for some of the old-timers to really reflect on their respective programs & stories. It brought me back to the roots of my recovery, too…and it felt great to share some of my own experience, strength, & hope. Blogging is a great outlet, but there’s no substitute for face-to-face interaction with other recovering alcoholics.
Nice to see some familiar faces I recognized from the time I spent working my program there, but equally did it make me eager to start forging lasting connections & hitting regular meetings down where I’m at in Connecticut. I’ve been feeling a little incomplete as of late, what with my job and living situation being stable for the foreseeable future…getting back into the Big Book / 12-Step discussions will be the golden ticket, methinks.
Invaluable lessons to be found there, regarding both sobriety and life. It’s time for me to shift gears out of my head and into the tangible world again — because my presence & words can do just as much to keep them sober, as theirs can do to keep me the same.
‘The only way to keep it, is to give it back.’
